ESPER
Esper reflects on the hidden connections between consumer luxury and the agricultural systems that sustain it. Using the identification number 7017 from a real calf as a recurring motif, the series traces a life reduced to data, moving backward from ashes to birth, from possession to origin. And the cycle repeats. Through distortion, shadow, and symbolic form, beauty becomes a vessel for discomfort. This work does not seek to accuse, but to reveal the quiet transactions that turn living beings into objects of consumption. Naming the calf Esper, short for Esperanza “hope,” restores individuality to what would otherwise remain unseen, asking viewers to pause and consider what is lost when value eclipses life.
